While I still have a motorcycle license obtained during my teenage years, I have chosen not to ride them anymore, primarily for safety concerns.
Despite providing less than 1% of miles driven, they make up 15% of traffic deaths and are 26 times more deadly than cars. In fact, there is an 80% chance of injury or death on a motorcycle in the event of an accident, compared to about 20% for passenger vehicles. It amazes me that we are required to wear seat belts in cars, yet motorcyclists can go without any real safety devices, including helmets in many states.
