At first glance, quality measures seem like a great idea. Perhaps the intent is to help processes work better, but certainly, my experience in the medical world has been mostly ridiculous. Someone, who doesn’t understand the issues involved, decides what measures should be applied and often irrelevant data is collected. Unfortunately this misinformation then effects changes in policies and procedures. Naturally, we are introduced to more quality measures to fix the resulting new problems.
