“Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.”
Proverbs 18:9 ESV
Growing up on a farm taught me the value of hard work, the satisfaction of earning my own living. What disturbs me most and what I see as the main issue in our country is the lack of a work ethic. Our society seems to think that people are owed (entitled) a living. Being created equal with equal rights does not mean that everyone has the same outcome no matter what one does. Personally, I am offended that I work hard and am forced to pay for other people to do nothing, because they have chosen to take advantage of our government programs, which have become far too bureaucratic and ridiculous. So much bad behavior has been rewarded for so long that bad behavior prevails and the incentives for good behavior have diminished. Common sense (also not appreciated and becoming rare) should tell our society that people have to do their part or else everything deteriorates.
