‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Never have I seen such fear and panic as we now have. While I understand the potential consequences of the coronavirus, I do not believe we are being instructed with honest information based on known facts. So our standard medical masks don’t help prevent the spread of this respiratory disease, but washing our hands does? I suspect it has more to do with costs and supply of masks. I totally understand and agree with hand washing, but I believe masks, though not perfect, can potentially help as well. Isolation imposed reactively will do little to prevent spread, in my opinion. We need some common sense imposed. I don’t witness much, if any, especially with the hoarding of toilet paper. I pray that this virus will awaken all the world to how much we need God.

Coronavirus goes Viral

Obviously we have a new viral illness that has spread worldwide and brought many deaths. Trying to understand the threat, even as a physician, is difficult. No one knows what the ultimate consequences will be as it runs its course, but the deluge of information has invoked panic all over the world. Certainly coronavirus is a terrible threat, and precautionary measures must be taken, but there are so many illnesses threatening our world—mental illness, substance addiction, etc. There is Hope and we must keep our faith in Him.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭29:18‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Being able to see physically is an amazing example of how many body parts must function in an extremely precise way to allow us our sense of sight.  And it requires a certain amount of light (very narrow band in the electromagnetic spectrum) to accomplish the feat.  As I age and my eyes need more correcting, I have far more appreciation for the complexity of sight.  Of course, vision has other definitions and sometimes we lose sight of how even the blind can have more vision than those who see.  This sense of vision can be blinded by all the “noise” surrounding us in our daily lives.  It is this vision that we must seek continually.

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:13-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

As Christians, we believe that Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died to make us right with God. He took on the sins of all who believe in Him, once and for all. I have read various views of whether salvation can be lost, once it has been received by faith. Obviously, we do not receive it by our works and many, including Billy Graham, believe that we don’t lose it because we continue to sin. As an oncologist who encounters deaths regularly, I pray that saved souls cannot be lost.

The Grass is Greener

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:2-3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The Grass is Greener

Our society tries to lead us to believe that success is obtaining material wealth. And while money can make life more comfortable in some ways, it does not bring happiness long term. Ultimately, material wealth will be taken away, as well as our general health. (Our government continues to find ways to tax us to pay for its callous spending, while destroying our healthcare system) By deluding us into believing “the grass is greener” with such materialism, our society has lured us into a temptation trap. We must stop this lie and put our hope in God, for only His pastures are truly greener.

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭25:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Life can be overwhelming at times, especially when it seems everyone and everything is placing demands upon us. For me, that describes most Mondays. All day at work on Mondays, I am supposed to be present in at least 2 places at the same time. I am receiving texts and calls and e-mails non-stop as I am tending to the needs of every patient on my schedule. Then after 10 hours of that hectic pace, family demands come rolling along. While I understand the blessings upon me, I feel the stress so intensely that I simply long to be alone and sheltered from the storm.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Often we look to our worldly leaders and friends for counsel and direction. Unfortunately, even the best of them, with the best of intentions, let us down. We must forgive them for their shortcomings, but remember that our Hope cannot rely upon them. Each of us is a Temple, and without His Spirit, we are lost. It is truly amazing how far our country has developed its policies to push us away from God. But The Creator of the universe is still in control and will use the bad to bring about His good. As believers, we can stand on His promises.
