‭‭Psalms‬ ‭130:5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Looking at this map of Belmont brought back some precious memories.  We lived there when Sarah (sincerelysarahstudios) was born.  While it brings sentimental feelings for that period of my life, I do not long to return to that time.  But while I know we should always live in the present, I tend to dream of the future and imagine something far better.  Most people do not think of me as an optimist because I tend to be critical (a great skill for scientific methodology and physician diagnostics), but I believe something far greater and better awaits us.  It is with that Hope that I proceed along my path.

Higher Learning

Higher Learning

The new school year is underway and all the fall activities are expanding our already full schedules. My college fraternity brothers are planning a reunion at one of our home football games and the nostalgia is clawing at my soul. One of them replied that he was coming “while he was still able” and that struck a chord with me. Those college years were indeed more than over priced books and mundane courses—they were a time for gaining wisdom and understanding, and forming deep relationships that would endure the trials of a lifetime. While I think our educational system needs reform, the true value of higher learning is indeed priceless.

Our family has always celebrated birthdays for the entire birth month. We believe that each birth is such a miracle that it needs to be honored for its uniqueness. This past weekend, we gathered to celebrate two family birthdays and spending those precious moments together will be a lasting treasure. My daughter, Sarah, painted baby ducks (above) for my birthday since she knows how much I adore these cute creatures. How a single cell can transform into a complex living being is absolutely miraculous and is enough proof in itself for a Divine Creator.

Check out more of Sarah’s art—it’s her birthday month as well.

Abide in me, and I in You

DC4D75A0-32C3-4D01-B6E5-6DC1F51E0A28“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Today I had a brief health issue that required minor intervention; yet, it reminded me of my own limitations—my mortality as a human. We sometimes forget how each day is a blessing that we can’t take for granted. Our entire life is dependent on His grace and yet we fail to trust in Him under all circumstances. When we focus on Him and abide in Him, and allow Him to abide in us, our true selves will bear our best fruits and we can experience joy beyond all understanding.

Labor Day

Labor Day
Labor Day was first celebrated in 1882 to honor our workers who sustain our country. Today, only about 40% of our population is in our workforce. Need I say more? Certainly our traditional values do not condone idleness, but our government has created such entitlements that work is optional. But the natural end to this trend is socialism where the Land of the Free becomes the Home of the Slave.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

We all need a short period of rest and relief from the hustle and bustle and screen time of modern life. Our lives are bombarded with others wanting us to do something. Periodically I certainly need to detach from everything worldly and relax. Years ago while studying for my oral board examinations, I spent a long weekend in a Catholic Respite in Arkansas. It gave me such peace and allowed me to focus clearly on the important things in life. Now years later, I feel the need to search for that peace again.

Delightful & Thankful

And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.””

Delightful and Thankful
Saturday I saw a baby duck at the local county fair and it was truly delightful. He was bright yellow and perfectly shaped and bursting with energy. My heart was filled with pleasure as I watched the little fellow go. He playfully pecked at his owner’s fingers and shuffled along the mat of his cage. Watching this baby duck was highly enjoyable and left me a bit more pleased to be alive. Thank you God for your amazing creations!
