Do Your Best

Do Your Best

My children will tell you that I always told them, “Always do your best, always do what is right and trust in God”. Most people allow their own insecurities/fears hold them back. Sometimes we tend to overthink the process instead of actively doing it. The best ideas usually come from making mistakes and learning from them. Still the most important aspect is your commitment to God.

Weddings

When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.””
‭‭John‬ ‭2:1-10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Weddings

As my daughter prepares for her wedding, I reflected upon weddings in general. These ceremonies have lots of common traditions around the world. Most have music, flowers, dancing, fancy dresses, food and drink. They have ignited an entire industry! (Google ‘weddings’) Obviously the most important thing is the union of two people who vow to love each other as long as they live. However, there is much cynicism about marriage among our society that has probably resulted from the high divorce rate and lack of commitment. Recently one young woman told me that many people her age don’t think marriage is necessary because humans are not meant to mate for life—they change and need to change companions to accommodate their needs and desires. Certainly we have become more self centered and feel more independent, despite our ultimate frailty and dependence on so many things. Perhaps weddings themselves have become the main reason for many to want to be married. Seemingly we have become a pleasure driven world.

New Year’s Resolution

14BCF8B6-C084-4E2B-B379-D5B3FDB0EFD1“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The New Year brings so much to mind. Mostly I am thankful for all the blessings in my life—Faith, family and friends.  Just to be alive to experience it is a joy and I know that God’s plans are far beyond my wildest dreams. My resolution will be to strengthen my faith and follow His ways more nearly. Each new year, indeed each new day, we have a new opportunity to improve ourselves. I pray for strength to honor this commitment to obey His commandments, and to enjoy the process.

Steadfast Love

‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:34‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Steadfast Love

Steadfast love is mentioned in Scripture hundreds of times. Yes, it means unwavering love that is fixed in place, resolute, immovable, devoted, committed, dedicated—it stands through all adversities and time. We humans cannot fathom love to this degree. We somehow think we can define love however we desire, that fits our circumstances. But God is Love that is steadfast; so why would we want anything else?

Tomorrow (12/22/2018), Sheridan and I will be married. Our story began when she, a news reporter, interviewed me as the first Radiation Oncologist in a new Cancer Center. Soon thereafter, we serendipitously met at a fundraiser and talked all day. Somehow we did not start dating then because we misread each other’s interest. Our paths diverged for 9 years, and then we reconnected on LinkedIn and our journey together began 2 years ago. We have traveled the World and shared so many precious memories already; but, God willing, we are just beginning. Yesterday, my sister informed me that my maternal grandparents were married on December 22, 1925–that and the Full Moon tomorrow—good signs🙏
