‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭45:22-23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Our country has been blessed with great wealth including many comforts and pleasures. These blessings have been taken for granted as we expect a certain way of life. This pandemic has shown us that our society is vulnerable. I believe God is sending us a great message to change our ways, yet we are already anticipating getting back to our normal way of life. What will it take to humble ourselves and put our faith in God? He wants us to rely on Him fully, putting our trust in Him. Growing up, Trust and Obey was one of my favorite hymns. Its words are still sweet music to my ears and the message resonates.

Good Outcome

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Clearly there will be some good that results from this pandemic. Social media abounds with all sorts of religious implications; and, while I believe that God cannot be pleased with our world’s behavior, I know that He is indeed in control and will use this time, as always, for good. Families are spending more time together, the simple pleasures are being appreciated, and the realization that we are not in control is understood. Our society is focusing on the essentials and realizing that our healthcare system has become a political pawn. The true heroes are being recognized and life is being valued. There will be many lives lost, many that could have been saved by earlier heeding of the warnings; but, sometimes our own weaknesses prevent us from making the best choices. We can only hope that we learn from this pandemic and change our behavior.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭21:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬
This pandemic has shown us what is essential. As I read on social media how healthcare workers, truck drivers and food industry workers have trumped sports figures, actors, and other celebrities, I sense how we better understand our blessings. While all the entertainment and social activities augment our lives with much happiness, they are not critical to life itself. In my opinion, we need to realign ourselves with God and pursue His will. Only then will we experience everlasting joy.

Nature’s Beauty

31EF8DAD-8E12-4892-8095-61830FF66F70“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭19:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Nature’s Beauty

What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong describes it perfectly—the beauty that is all around us. Often we take it for granted. Now is the perfect time to take a walk outside and experience this awesome world. Be amazed again as when you were a young child. The wonder is still there when we are not distracted. Gaze at the endless sky, watch the sway of the trees as you feel the wind, and listen to the birds sing. Quiet yourself as you release the pressures of society and absorb the gentleness of the air. Let the sun or rain sprinkle you with delight and witness the glory of a loving God.

International Prayer Day

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭55:22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

International Prayer Day

The Ides of March is a great day for international prayer. As the Coronavirus ravages lives around the world, it brings the importance of prayer to the forefront. We are reminded that we are totally reliant on God for this precious thing we call life, with which He has blessed us. Already the number of people praying and turning to God is encouraging, for we have become a people self-centered and hard hearted; and, our repentance and alignment with His will is long overdue. I believe this pandemic will change our perspective and I pray that our world will turn to God in prayer.

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Never have I seen such fear and panic as we now have. While I understand the potential consequences of the coronavirus, I do not believe we are being instructed with honest information based on known facts. So our standard medical masks don’t help prevent the spread of this respiratory disease, but washing our hands does? I suspect it has more to do with costs and supply of masks. I totally understand and agree with hand washing, but I believe masks, though not perfect, can potentially help as well. Isolation imposed reactively will do little to prevent spread, in my opinion. We need some common sense imposed. I don’t witness much, if any, especially with the hoarding of toilet paper. I pray that this virus will awaken all the world to how much we need God.

The Grass is Greener

FF53B82E-FD50-49E1-89FC-27CCF59CDE00“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:2-3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The Grass is Greener

Our society tries to lead us to believe that success is obtaining material wealth. And while money can make life more comfortable in some ways, it does not bring happiness long term. Ultimately, material wealth will be taken away, as well as our general health. (Our government continues to find ways to tax us to pay for its callous spending, while destroying our healthcare system) By deluding us into believing “the grass is greener” with such materialism, our society has lured us into a temptation trap. We must stop this lie and put our hope in God, for only His pastures are truly greener.
