Good Outcome

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Clearly there will be some good that results from this pandemic. Social media abounds with all sorts of religious implications; and, while I believe that God cannot be pleased with our world’s behavior, I know that He is indeed in control and will use this time, as always, for good. Families are spending more time together, the simple pleasures are being appreciated, and the realization that we are not in control is understood. Our society is focusing on the essentials and realizing that our healthcare system has become a political pawn. The true heroes are being recognized and life is being valued. There will be many lives lost, many that could have been saved by earlier heeding of the warnings; but, sometimes our own weaknesses prevent us from making the best choices. We can only hope that we learn from this pandemic and change our behavior.

Early Spring

BD459D2A-47C6-4496-A2D4-1E9858CCBF18“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”
‭‭Lamentations‬ ‭3:22-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Early Spring

This year spring arrived earlier than it has since 1896. It is a time for renewal and a sign that God continues to bless us with an abundance of love and mercy. Certainly we need to count our blessings, even as we endure a monumental pandemic. When we feel the warmth of the sun and see the flowers burst into bloom, we can rejoice in His goodness. Last night, I felt honored by the presence of a dove that built a nest, two eggs included, on my deck swing. The veil of impending viral illness has been torn by the arrival of a majestic early spring. Let’s praise God continually!

New Year’s Resolution

14BCF8B6-C084-4E2B-B379-D5B3FDB0EFD1“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The New Year brings so much to mind. Mostly I am thankful for all the blessings in my life—Faith, family and friends.  Just to be alive to experience it is a joy and I know that God’s plans are far beyond my wildest dreams. My resolution will be to strengthen my faith and follow His ways more nearly. Each new year, indeed each new day, we have a new opportunity to improve ourselves. I pray for strength to honor this commitment to obey His commandments, and to enjoy the process.

United

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

United
As a human society, we have common healthy goals that can be obtained more readily when we are united. Watching our government bicker like immature children disgusts most of us; because, deep down, we know we have more similarities than differences. Still the enemy tries to divide us by focusing us on those areas that have fierce opposition. As the 1970 song proclaims, “United We Stand”! We must learn to love and forgive and be united in that respect. Our future depends on it.

Rejoice

What a beautiful word that describes the fruits of a joyful heart! In the middle of the night, someone described me as a “badass” in the good sense—someone who energetically plows forward. Though my feelings might not always be so pleasant, I rejoice in the hope of Our Savior. I realize that helping others is my calling and healing is my gift. Even when our healthcare system is anything but caring, I still have to care with deeds, not logos and advertisements and scores. I recall a song’s words from my childhood, “though I felt confused and lonely, God felt my anxious tears; now my heart adores my Savior and my soul is filled with praise.” Let us rejoice in His goodness and mercy!

Goodness

76388D73-893E-480C-85B8-58E4DD479479“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Goodness

The natural world itself is evidence of God. He has created it and it is good indeed. As a scientist by training, I realize that humans can never fully understand His ways. We cannot create a single living cell and we struggle to combat many of nature’s forces; yet, many do not believe and arrogantly think that humans can learn to control everything. Over time, God has blessed us with much knowledge and certainly major strides have been made in many of our professions; but, He is still in control and we need to gain that wisdom. He will continue to pour out His Love because He loves us and wants us to enjoy His goodness.

Grace

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Grace is a favorable disposition towards someone. It is a voluntary act of goodwill. God has extended His Grace (favor) to us that we should exemplify the same in dealing with others. They might not deserve it, but neither do we.
