Joy to the World

This Christmas I really want to celebrate the joy that was brought to earth when Jesus was born in a manger.  I have witnessed so many decorations and commercials and wondered what the world would be like if we proclaimed the Good News as much.  I have experienced the hustle and bustle of traffic and shoppers and wondered how different it would be if we rushed to serve others as much.  Ultimately everyone seems to come together and experience a part of the joy of Christmas.  It seems that there are many others like me who long for the full joy of Christmas.  We live in a culture that promotes the material gifts and fanfare, but discourages Christianity.  What if we all loved God with all our soul and all our heart and all our might and loved others as ourselves every day?

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

As a physician, I am disappointed that our profession has become a victim of bureaucracy, over regulation and political correctness. When I began my medical career, the hours were extremely long and the medical care as inherently stressful as ever; but, we were allowed to take care of patients in an efficient manner, and, at the same time, we could have a fun work environment. Now, every step along the way, we are confronted with stifling rules and regulations, denials and complaints and roadblocks and harassment. The fun has been “outlawed”. I believe we have to turn our healthcare system around in a way that makes it desirably fun. To have great healthcare, we need joyful caregivers.

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5:11-12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In a world full of materialism and self-centeredness, it is miraculous that many people do actually sacrifice for others. Often these extreme acts of love and kindness are overlooked. As a parent, I now know how parents often sacrifice so much for their children; but, it happens with perfect strangers as well. The ultimate sacrifice is giving one’s life to save others and while that occasionally happens in our modern day world, nothing compares to what Christ did for everyone on The Cross. He died to cover our sins and make us righteous to God. My mind cannot comprehend such love, but my heart can feel the joy of salvation.

This past weekend, one of my grand dogs that visited me seemed a little out of sorts, as he was displaced from his usual surroundings and primary caregiver. His disposition was just a little tense and his sleep patterns were off cycle. Having been physically exhausted from an especially stressful work week, needless to say I was very annoyed. But then I started thinking about the situation from his perspective. He leaves the comfort of his familiar home and the full attention from his owner to come to a strange place where he is not the primary focus. Obviously this change would make anyone unsettled. Sometime life can be very unsettling and no matter how displaced we may feel, we need to focus on finding joy under all circumstances, for we are never displaced from God’s love.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Last night I watched a romantic comedy, a romcom. Yes, I actually tend to like them because they leave you feeling pleasantly satisfied that all worked out well. As I quietly pondered why romcoms evoke such emotions, it occurred to me that life is meant to be similar. If we put our faith in God, He will make everything work out—that is the promise and the ultimate delight. What joy we can have through Him as we live with this hope. And just like the romcom, we will live happily ever after.

Delightful & Thankful

And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.””
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:21-22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Delightful and Thankful
Saturday I saw a baby duck at the local county fair and it was truly delightful. He was bright yellow and perfectly shaped and bursting with energy. My heart was filled with pleasure as I watched the little fellow go. He playfully pecked at his owner’s fingers and shuffled along the mat of his cage. Watching this baby duck was highly enjoyable and left me a bit more pleased to be alive. Thank you God for your amazing creations!

Marriage (matrimony, wedlock), is a recognized union between two people, also called spouses, that establishes rights and obligations between them. Throughout history, different cultures and religions have defined their own rules. In our country, marriage rates have been declining, but the most popular month for weddings is June. My daughter does custom wedding paintings (can even do them live) that create keepsakes for years to come.
