Holy Week

Holy Week

This week is the perfect time to self-reflect and ask yourself, “Am I aligned with God?” As the Coronavirus pandemic accelerates in our country, our lives seem to be out of our control. But, reality is that we never had control. Our only control is over our decisions, under whatever circumstances, that will ultimately lead to consequences. It has become our societal norm to always place the blame on someone or something else. With regards to your alignment with God, only you can choose and the consequences are eternal. In our culture, freedom of religion has been limited by a corrupt political system. Nevertheless, faith takes courage and resolve. Living in God’s Will has always bucked the worldly ways, but the rewards are beyond measure.

Yesterday’s Walk

02B35CDA-DE96-434B-BDAF-0A3AC93AFD3E“The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.”
‭‭The Song of Solomon‬ ‭2:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Yesterday while walking in the warmth of the sun on a gorgeous spring day, I felt so blessed to be alive and able to enjoy all the sights and sounds and smells of spring. Seeing the blossoming plants and trees dance with the breeze, hearing all the birds chatter and sing melodies to the world, and smelling the fresh cut lawns and earthy aromas reminded me that God is in control and will bring renewal to our world again. Nature did not seem to worry or panic about the impending pandemic onslaught; so, neither will I worry. The God who created the universe can certainly fix whatever comes our way. (Walking can be so therapeutic!)

Courage

C94B92BB-8372-4A33-90A9-716D2CCA9042“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Courage

During a pandemic, it is natural to have fear. Most people fear suffering and death. God tells us not to fear numerous times in the Bible; yet, it is difficult for us to trust and obey. He does not tell us to not be concerned and take precautions. Watching the newsfeeds about how to manage this coronavirus demonstrates our lack of wisdom. Yes, we have so much knowledge and probably have all the right answers, but we lack the discernment in our materialistic culture to choose wisely. So fear erupts into panic and we react instead of being proactive. We have to be courageous and courage must be rooted in Faith and Hope.

April Fools

B67187A4-A960-42F1-BB04-5BFCF98DA6F5“There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God,”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

April Fools

Amidst the horror of a rapidly consuming pandemic comes a day when we can have a moment of levity to ease our suffering. No one really knows the origin of April Fools’ Day, but some suggest that it might date back to Noah releasing a dove on the first of April before the waters had receded. The tradition has become pulling pranks and calling the gullible ones, April Fools. The spirit of the day should be light and fun and the humor of the situation should bring enjoyment to the soul. Even though we walk in the shadow of death, we must fear no evil and we must remain joyful. God remains in control.

Revival

EE703DA6-A70B-4272-BA49-2D250A8BC746“Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭18:4-5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Revival

I just heard some people talking about how they cannot wait for this “thing” (pandemic) to be over and life to return to normal. While I hope that the devastation from this disease ends quickly, I pray that our world has a true revival, with lives changed forever, for good. Our priorities need to change and our behaviors need to change. This society has become dependent on the government, instead of being reliant on God, to a breaking point where those who work cannot support themselves, while be forced to help those who do not work. And many of us are being forced to support life choices of others that directly conflict with our beliefs. It took ten plagues for Pharaoh to listen and free the Israelites. Let’s listen to this ONE.

Compassion

15242E91-62F2-4421-AA79-93966A4D37D9“Jesus wept.”
‭‭John‬ ‭11:35‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Compassion

As a physician, I have to keep some objectivity in order to make good medical decisions. That fact became perfectly clear to me when I had the honor of delivering my oldest daughter, http://www.sincerelysarahstudios.com . Even after delivering hundreds of babies prior to her, I needed a nudge from the obstetrician to clamp and cut the tight nuchal cord. In the past few years, we physicians have been under attack for lacking compassion. While not every physician has the same level of compassion, dedicating so much time, money and effort to becoming a caregiving physician shows inherent compassion, I believe. The healthcare system has failed physicians, just as it has failed patients. The bureaucracy and greed surrounding healthcare has become apparent in the pandemic; and hopefully, we will learn from this disaster to put physicians back in charge of healthcare.

Humility

6E334F57-2CE2-46D1-A62F-68961D24A046“”Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭45:22-23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Humility

Our country has been blessed with great wealth including many comforts and pleasures. These blessings have been taken for granted as we expect a certain way of life. This pandemic has shown us that our society is vulnerable. I believe God is sending us a great message to change our ways, yet we are already anticipating getting back to our normal way of life. What will it take to humble ourselves and put our faith in God? He wants us to rely on Him fully, putting our trust in Him. Growing up, Trust and Obey was one of my favorite hymns. Its words are still sweet music to my ears and the message resonates.
