Afternoon tea is a light meal, the custom originated amongst the wealthy social classes in England in the 1840s.
My daughter, who does the art for this BLOG, carries on this tradition with delicious teas and assorted savories and treats, like Dutch stroopwafels, Belgian chocolate thins, scones with clotted cream and lemon curd, and more. She even has a clock glass case full of tea cups to celebrate “tea time” in full punny style. Today we feast on a special jelly cake from Shuman’s bakery in Alexandria that is a traditional favorite of Princess Elizabeth, before she became Queen. It is still being made in her honor. And it sure grows on you. How delightful with tea!
