Tardiness

Tardiness

My family and friends will tell you that I am always on time, which requires being early more often than late.  Some social events may allow for a reasonable delay of arrival, but the concept of fashionably late has spiraled out of control.  Particular for one on one meetings, being on time should be expected.  Tardiness is rude, selfish and inconsiderate.  Time is also precious for the person waiting and the tardy one essentially steals that time.

Go With All Your Heart

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37-39 ESV

Go With All Your Heart

Yesterday’s events aligned in such a way that this post is truly fresh. In Sunday school yesterday, we discussed how we should be in constant prayer with God, always doing our best and praising Him, no matter the circumstances. Shortly after Church, my sweet mother-in-law mentioned how she always enjoys what she is doing at the moment; and, she is always doing something for others. And our exchange student from Spain related her joy from being at a party with mostly strangers, relishing every experience in a foreign country. Finally, my wife spent over four hours on the phone with an airline agent, getting our tickets in order. All of these things reminded me of the greatest two commandments, which combine to say, “Go with all your heart”.

Old Age

There are many terms to describe people of older age: elderly, geriatric, senior citizen, golden years, etc.
What exact age is old is somewhat arbitrary and depends on one’s perspective. In our general population, we do not have proper respect for our elderly, in my opinion. We tend to focus on our youth and discard our seniors. But the essence of the elderly is wisdom—they have lots of experience and could offer extremely helpful advice. I have always enjoyed the elderly and have learned much from them.

Friend

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:17‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Friend

A friend is another person with whom there is a bond of mutual affection and trust. In the perfect form, being a friend is a daunting task—it requires such love and respect and sacrifice. Perhaps that is why I really dislike the term, “just friends”, which often means “not friends”; and, I believe a true friend is a precious treasure.
One of the best descriptions of a true friend is that person who walks in when everyone else walks out—they will always be there for you.

Honorable

synonyms:
morally correct, honest, moral, ethical, principled, righteous, right-minded, full of integrity, decent, respected, respectable, venerable, virtuous, good, upstanding, upright, worthy, noble, high-principled, fair, just, truthful, trustworthy, trusty, law-abiding, incorruptible, reliable, reputable, dependable, faithful, illustrious, distinguished, eminent, great, admirable, glorious, prestigious, noble, notable, creditable, renowned, esteemed
During President Bush’s funeral today, the word honorable came to mind and seemed to sum up this man’s character. He was a member of the great generation and leaves us with great respect and admiration.
In contrast, I recall a recent court experience where the judge was called honorable, but the synonyms listed above certainly did not apply. This judge accepted the position of honor, but failed to assume the responsibilities of fulfilling that expectation. In a nutshell, that summarizes most of our society’s problems.

S’more Love

‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Our world truly needs more love, so that we all help each other to be the best we can be. Our struggles often stem from our self-centeredness—protecting ourselves at the expense of others.
