Priorities

Priorities
This pandemic has shown us what is essential. As I read on social media how healthcare workers, truck drivers and food industry workers have trumped sports figures, actors, and other celebrities, I sense how we better understand our blessings. While all the entertainment and social activities augment our lives with much happiness, they are not critical to life itself. In my opinion, we need to realign ourselves with God and pursue His will. Only then will we experience everlasting joy.

Salvation

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:13-14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Salvation

As Christians, we believe that Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died to make us right with God. He took on the sins of all who believe in Him, once and for all. I have read various views of whether salvation can be lost, once it has been received by faith. Obviously, we do not receive it by our works and many, including Billy Graham, believe that we don’t lose it because we continue to sin. As an oncologist who encounters deaths regularly, I pray that saved souls cannot be lost.

Hindsight 2020

How often we hear, “Had I only known, I would have ___.” Indeed hindsight is 2020, but we can rest assured that as long as we follow His Way, we do not have to worry about the future—God is 2020. I know sometimes I struggle with turning over my control issues and trusting and obeying, but ultimately I realize that while I can make choices, I cannot control the outcome. Thankfully I don’t have to worry and I don’t have to be in control. I just need to believe and trust and obey—truly the best deal ever.

Salvation

3C09FFAE-E99C-4181-9C27-41C43B8DDDAB“For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:20-21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Salvation

Our Sunday school lesson raised the question of “can we regain salvation after rejecting it?” Certainly we all continue to sin and fall short of being anywhere near righteous with our own works; but, what if we denounce God and turn away from Him? Can we turn back and still have salvation?? Our culture tends to push us to tolerate, then accept, and finally embrace all sorts of sinful behavior, but what are the eternal consequences?
Apparently this is one of the BIG theological questions. Some believe there is always hope, even in this situation. Clearly it has given me reason to pause and ponder. I realize I sin even though I know better—clearly not ideal, but is that forgivable? Only God knows and we can only hope and pray.

Stand Tall

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭58:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Stand Tall
By myself, I feel weak and pitiful and pathetic and worthless. I cannot seem to stay on the right path. Trouble ensues and everything gets worse…
Thankfully I am never alone, for God is always with me. Still I stumble and fall on a regular basis, but when I am down, all I need to do is keeping looking UP! I can stand tall because He is always with me.

Father

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Father
The greatest joy in my life is being a father. I love my children in a way that is so immense and intense, far exceeding anything rational. One of my daughters just left after spending some time alone with me and my heart already aches from missing her. This kind of love though pales in comparison to the kind of love our Heavenly Father has for us, giving us His Son to deliver us from evil. It comforts me to know that despite not deserving it, His Love pours out—never failing.

Grace

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Grace is a favorable disposition towards someone. It is a voluntary act of goodwill. God has extended His Grace (favor) to us that we should exemplify the same in dealing with others. They might not deserve it, but neither do we.
